How can GHS save me so much money?

The concept behind insurance is to spread financial risk among large numbers of people. In essence, insurance allows the losses incurred by a small group of customers who file claims to be shared by the entire customer base. At GHS, our philosophy is that responsible drivers should not have to pay for the claims of more negligent drivers. Because GHS customers make fewer claims and get fewer driving citations, they receive lower rates.

What discounts does GHS offer?

Depending on your state of residence, GHS offers savings for:

  • Air Bags
  • Passive Restraints
  • Anti-lock Brakes
  • Anti-theft Devices
  • Multiple cars
  • Homeowners
  • Good grades
  • And more!

What affects my rates?

  • Driving record
  • Age
  • The type of coverage you select
  • Where your vehicle is garaged
  • Type of vehicle
  • How your vehicle is used
  • Miles to and from work
  • Whether or not your vehicle is leased

How can I reduce my rates?

At GHS, we offer a variety of discounts:

  • Safety features such as anti-lock brakes, passive restraints and air bags
  • Good grades (depending on state of residence)
  • Anti-theft device
  • Defensive driving course
  • Driver training for youthful drivers
  • A good driving record
  • The type of vehicle you drive (Typically, family sedans and more conventional cars are less expensive to insure than sports cars.)

I'm a good driver, but if I have an accident or get a ticket in the future, will I be canceled?

We offer renewals to 98 percent of our customers. Accidents and tickets will affect your rate, but not until your next renewal date.

How long do accidents and tickets affect my rate?

All traffic convictions and accidents remain on your driving record for three years. Points for traffic convictions and chargeable accidents are added and removed at the renewal of your policy.

What happens to me in the event of a catastrophe?

By law, insurance companies must set aside money in reserves to pay for unexpected large losses. Like all responsible insurers, we adhere to the financial guidelines mandated by the insurance commission of each state in which we are licensed.

In addition, GHS carries reinsurance. Insurance companies buy reinsurance to protect themselves from the risk of catastrophic losses. Simply put, GHS gives part of its premiums to the reinsurance company with the agreement that the reinsurer will assume part of the risk. This means you can be confident that we are financially capable of covering your losses.

What is insurance?

Insurance is a way of spreading financial risk among large numbers of people. You pay a premium to an insurance company for the right to share in funds set aside to pay your costs in certain pre-defined circumstances.

Why do I need insurance?

Auto insurance is designed to protect you financially. You can be held responsible for damages that you, or anyone for whom you are responsible, cause as a result of an auto accident.

In addition, in most states it’s against the law to drive without automobile insurance. States typically require drivers to provide proof of financial ability to pay damages resulting from an automobile accident for which you might be responsible. An insurance policy is the most convenient way to prove your ability to meet your responsibilities.

Who is covered under my insurance policy?

Your policy usually covers you, your spouse, relatives who live in your household and others who have permission to drive one of your covered vehicles.

What should I do if I have an accident?

  • Do not discuss blame or fault.
  • Call GHS' claims department at 1-800-443-8447 during regular business hours. If there is an emergency outside of normal business hours, please call 1-800-621-5410.
